Red Fox (Vulpes vulpes)

I took this image in October 2005, in Sussex with my first digital Pentax. I am miffed about the piece of grass across the right side of the face, but love the clarity of the image. Why is it that with my new equipment and more expensive lens I still can't recreate the same sharpness?

Sydney Opera House from Quay West

Thank heavens for jet lag, else I would definitely not have been up at 4:30am to grab a taxi over to central Sydney to grab this shot from the opposite side of the water. What a magical morning.

My Beloved Cat "Inca" (Felis catus)

I got her from a small farm on the outskirts of Nutley, East Sussex when she was 8 weeks old and I named her after the South American Incas following a trip I took to Peru to climb Macchu Pichu. She turned 12 last week and is as active and mad as ever. She loves prawns and pigs liver, but prefers to catch her own lunch and bring it home to share. This is her poised to pounce on a lazer pen dot on the rug!

West European Hedgehoglet (Erinaceus europaeus)

Found this little hoglet in an old barbeque in a garden in Haywards Heath, all curled up into a tiny ball no bigger than the palm of my hand. So cute!

Capybara (Hydrochoerus hydrochaeris)

I took this wild capybara in the Pantanal region of Brazil in June 2007.
The capybara is the largest living rodent in the world, its closest to the Agouti and the name 'Capybara' means "master of the grasses" but its scientific name, hydrochaeris, is Greek for "water hog". They can reach weights of 100kg and look the size of a large dog, but they are completely harmless and some came right up to us to inspect our tripods during our stay in Brazil.

Australian Sea Lion (Neophoca cinerea)

I took this photo on a 3-day trip to Kangeroo Island off the South coast of Australia in February 2006. The beach was covered in breeding pairs of sea lions and I felt very priviledged to be sharing the sunset with them.

Elephant Hawk-moth (Deilephila elpenor)

Taken at St Dunstans Farm near Heathfield, Sussex. Summer 2007. It was the first time I had seen one of these stunning moths and am slightly irritated with myself for not getting the aperature quite right for both wings.

Snorkelling in Golden Sands, The karpaz. Northern Cyprus.

We snorkelled first and then went for a beer at Hassan's Turtle Beach, which is located in the northern part of Cyprus, in the Karpaz Peninsula adjacent to Golden Sands beach, the island’s best beach where Hassan Korkmaz, a former Marine Biologist, runs a restaurant and camping accommodation facility. For the last 15 years, Hassan has committed to turning this area into a Natural Sanctuary in order to protect the local wildlife, especially nesting sea turtles and wild donkeys.

Black-capped Donacobius (Donacobius atricapilla)

I took this picture after a long dawn shoot in the Pantanal in Brazil (2007) I took it with my first digital SLR, the Pentax *ist DS.
I was heading back along a dusty track to the van to go get some breakfast when our tutor pointed out a couple of these birds flitting around the grass verge ahead of me and ordered me down on my stomach with my bean bag! I'm so glad he did, this image won me first prize at the Kent and Sussex Wildlife Photographer of the Year competition 2009.

Flamingos at Sunset at Cabo de Gata

Great Flamingos flying over Las Salinas (salt marshes) at Cabo de Gata in Southern Spain where we wildcamped in the campervan, 2009.
We also saw a wild fox that night and wandered down to a bird hide on the marshes a little further inland. Beautiful spot.

Squacco Heron (Ardeola ralloides)

I was looking down on the River Arno in Florence, Italy (August 2009) and this heron was perched on a small mound of earth in the shallows of the water's edge. A well-aimed stone plopping into the water a few metres away caused it to take off upstream allowing me to grab a shot from this fortunate angle.

Lesser Kiskadee (Pitangus lictor)

I really do adore this photo. The Lesser Kiskadee lit up by the morning sun of the Pantanal in Brazil (2007). He is perched a foot or so above the waterlogged plains of floating hyacinths, ready to catch any of the millions of passing flies. There were a common sight in the area, but still lovely to watch at this time of day.

Domestic Cat "Kaiman" (Felis catus) chasing rabbit

Run rabbit run rabbit run run run!
I took this one morning in my garden in West Sussex. He did eventually catch the bunny, but being as he was still a kitten at this stage, Kaimen wasn't entirely sure what to do with it, so he simply let it go. (Not what Inca would have done at all!).

Slovenian Storm

My first attempt at taking a shot of lightening - thankfully the rain held off for a good 30 minutes giving me enough time to fit in about 15 attempts, before I got this one! (Tripod and patience both ESSENTIAL!)
